No Tap Water for 10 Days in the Banjaras’ Nangla of Surauth; Protest Staged

Surauth, Karauli – For the past 10 days, water supply through taps has been unavailable in Banjaron Ka Nagla, an area under the jurisdiction of the Surauth Municipality. Angered by this drinking water crisis, residents staged a protest on Tuesday, waving empty vessels and raising slogans against officials of the Water Supply Department.

Incensed women expressed their outrage by smashing empty earthen pots on the road. A large number of people and women from the Banjara community—including former councilors Dashrath Singh Banjara and Lalita Banjara, as well as Manoj, Rakesh, Saroj, Kavita, Anokhi, Geetam, Chhota, Nisha, Pura Devi, Bhuri Devi, Omprakash, Ramkishan, Arjun, Guddi Devi, Fauji, and Darshan Singh—gathered on the main thoroughfare to carry out the protest.

Former Councilor Dashrath Singh Banjara and other residents stated that approximately 250 households in Banjaron Ka Nagla have been without tap water for the last 10 days.

The drinking water supply has been halted due to a burnt-out motor belonging to the Water Supply Department, leaving villagers to face a severe water crisis. Although the concerned officials of the Water Supply Department have been apprised of this issue, neither has the motor been repaired nor has any satisfactory response been received thus far.

It is further alleged that officials are not even answering phone calls, a situation that has fueled widespread resentment among the residents. The people have demanded that the District Collector ensure an immediate resolution to this drinking water crisis.

They have also issued a warning that if the problem is not resolved promptly, they will launch a full-scale agitation.
