Under the Child Marriage Prevention and Eradication Project, formation of adolescent groups has started in 30 villages of Masalpur block.
Masalpur, Karauli : Under the Child Marriage Prevention and Eradication Project, jointly implemented by the District Administration and ActionAid Association Karauli, adolescent groups are being formed in 30 identified villages of the Masalpur block of Karauli district. The objective of this initiative is to make adolescent girls aware of their rights, education, health, safety, and leadership skills, and to ensure their active participation in preventing social evils like child marriage.
ActionAid Association District Coordinator Dinesh Kumar Bairwa stated that under the project, adolescent girls will be organized in each selected village and regular adolescent group meetings will be held. These groups will provide information on child marriage, child rights, gender equality, the importance of education, adolescent health, nutrition, life skills, and government schemes.

He explained that adolescent groups will serve as an important platform for preventing child marriage at the village level. The adolescent members of the group will identify potential cases of child marriage in their communities and inform the relevant departments and the village-level child protection system. They will also work to encourage other adolescent girls and parents to continue their education and raise awareness about the ill effects of child marriage.

Under the project, various trainings, awareness programs, dialogue meetings, and capacity building activities will be organized to develop leadership skills, enhance self-confidence, and strengthen decision-making abilities among adolescent girls. Adolescent groups will also be linked to schools, Anganwadi centers, village panchayats, and other community stakeholders to promote collective efforts on issues related to child protection and child rights.

District Coordinator Bairwa stated that child marriage is not only a social evil but also a violation of children’s rights, affecting their health, education, and overall development. Therefore, eradicating child marriage is impossible without the active participation of the community. Adolescent groups will become important agents of change in this direction and play a crucial role in building a child marriage-free society.
Adolescent groups formed under the project will empower girls to become aware of their rights and self-reliance, while also connecting them with education to ensure their bright future. This initiative is being taken forward by the District Administration and ActionAid Association with widespread public support at the community level, so that the goal of making Masalpur block child marriage free can be achieved.
